Students chosen for Covid arts project

12 of our students are working with Skills 4 All on a year long project focusing on capturing, preserving, and sharing the first-hand experiences of young people of colour during the global Covid 19 pandemic.

Skills 4 All was awarded a £50,000 grant by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to run a fully interactive Arts based learning project called My COVID-19 Memories.  Supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the art-based project will give the young people the skills, tools, support, and opportunity to record their COVID-19 stories, in their own words.

The students are now working with creative arts, videography and photography professionals and will learn core skills in order to share their unique lockdown stories.  In addition, they will gain up-to-date digital and work-ready skills they can use to strengthen their career opportunities in the fast-growing digital sector in Greater Manchester.

Skills 4 All aim to empower under-served communities with the skills they need to thrive in the digital sector via their award nominated programme of creative projects and workshops.  They are supported in this project by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, which is one of the largest independent grant-makers in the UK.

Andrea Atkinson, Headteacher said:

“I am so glad that some of our students get to take part in this very important project.  Not only will they learn some new and invaluable skills, but they will get to tell and preserve their experience of what was hopefully a once in a lifetime event.”
